Steyr LP10

Steyr LP10

I bought a standard trigger LP10 this time last year, and I upgraded it in the summer to the ball bearing trigger version

Original LP10

Ball Bearing Trigger LP10

Grip

The grip is available in several sizes and also both left and right hand. They also come with fully adjustable palm shelves. The grip has been attacked at some length with the dremmel to make it fit my hand precisely. I must say thanks to Ian, the GB squad grip guru - I can only say that the grip feels like an old glove. For consistency, this really is a must, to ensure you get a consistent feel each and every shot. If parts of the grip are too small, you can always build it up with epoxy wood.

The whole set up can be adjusted to how you hold your pistol and undertake your lift. There are six scews in the rear of the action that touch onto a metal plate inside the grip - a real bonus and well done Steyr.

Sights

The front sight is adustable up and down the barrel and also different sized blades are available. The rear sight can be moved up and down too - another good move, as you can get a large sight picture. The rear sight has plenty of adjustment on it too - I am well pleased with that.

Loading

The loading lever is on the left hand side. Pull it back to cock, and insert the pellet into the breech. Shutting the lever will allow the pellet to be fired. You can dry fire by partially shutting the lever - good for practice.

Trigger

This is adjustable always around - first stage, second stage, pull, and all positions - this can truely be set up to suit you. The ball bearing trigger is better than the normal trigger. I have used the electronic trigger too. I can not comment fully as I have not had an extended use tho - I am more than happy with the BB trigger - very crisp and predictable.

Power

Obviously, I wiil not talk about how to adjust the power. But I used the facility during the set up. I tried out around 15 different types of pellet. The pistol was bench clamped and groups of five were fired into the 10m target. After a long test session, I adjusted the power such that RWS R10 match pistol pellets were one holing out of the tin - I promptly bought all of the batch that was available !!!

I am well pleased with all aspects of the pistol - I have spent a long time setting it up, but am now happy with it.

It is truely accurate, and only let down by the user.

I have put around 10k pellets thru them and they are still spot on

mini update.

both of the pistols are working fine, with nothing to report. We had run out of the old batch of R10 match pellets, so conducted a bench clamped test on the new batch they have in at NSRA. The result in both pistols was 6 through the same hole when taken straight out of the tin - so we bought 2 sleeves  happy0065 happy0065

we have put nearly 20k pellets through the pistols and , bar a barrel clean, that is all that has been needed.

I have had reports back from one of the other users at NSRA, who has a non ball bearing triggered LP10. He shoots for the GB squad, and has put tens of thousands of pellets thru his LP10. It looks like his reg has failed, as it will not fire. Harry Preston is looking at it next week, so I will update the report then.

Mini update

The non firing LP10 from Andy F was down to a spring inside the trigger (well guessed there Chris) - luckily Harry Preston was at the competition and he fixed it there and then.

I have been using the LP10 for Chris's comps on here and for the AAOC pistol comps, as well as the Cumbria postal leagues - phew  happy0065

Everything is running smooth and sweet - so nothing to report

Well not strictly true now is it Phil. I said trigger adjustment, which was the problem with the first Rohm supplied from Brocock when I ordered one for Shirley, but I'll take the credit sSig_heeheehee.

mini update

I am just about to join a local club here in London (West Ruislip) and carry on using the pistol. I have not used it much during December due to work.

I noticed that the one cylinder was completely empty - it turns out it was not a leak, but I had not tightened up the cylinder  rolleye0012 alls well now.

everything else is ok

I am shooting at Ruislip Rifle Club now, and have signed up for the summer league.

I have had an issue with my grip, where I waas not using the right amount of pressure on the thumb - everything was grouping tight, but right. I have practiced shooting at a 3mm wide vertical line and have sorted out the thumb pressure - managed a 48, 3x47's and lots of 46/45's - well happy

the pistol is performing faultlessly - well happy

the thumb pressure and grip set up is working well. I am hitting the 3mm vertical line 4 times out of 5 in practice - I am pleased with that.

I am practising for the summer leagues down here in London, and also Chris's AGT ISSF type comp - looking forward to it  th_smiley_two_thumbs_up

A chance to catch up. As I am away a lot, I am not shooting as much as I used to or want to - and the lack of practice and fatigue when I do show up is showing on the general results. It is definitely a case of user input error I am afraid.

The pistol is faultless - it works every time I use it, without exception. I could not ask for anything better (wish I could say the same of the user). Nothing has altered at all - the trigger weight is still spot on and the FPS is spot on.

Nothing else to report

Just an update on the pistol.

I have finished shooting the leagues for West Ruislip and also for the AGT summer league. I can certainly say that fatigue and a lack of practice are starting to show on my average scores  rolleye0012

The pistol is faultless and I can recommend it to anyone without hesitation. However, as I have left London, I no longer shoot there in the leagues, I have packed the pistol away.

I am looking for a new club here in Paris, but I am unlikely to bring the LP10 across with me, so I guess it will be mothballed for a while. As and when I start shooting again, I will continue the review.

An update of sorts. I have not used my pistol now for the best part of a year  mad0217 due to work commitments. Having said that, I managed to meet up with the GB squad coaches and was given a few more tips to help - wish I was shooting to take full advantage though.

Dad has been using his all the time, and has sent it back to Steyr for the ball bearing trigger upgrade. It has now come back and it is absolutely spot on - in his opinion, a well worth while upgrade.

Everything else is working perfectly, and upto 21755 pellets now
